How to sync your iBooks onto your iPad

1409219519_Information

Lesson time! Obviously books are a lot easier (if only because it’s more natural) to read on your iPad instead of your computer. Here’s how to sync your books from your computer to your iPad.

Connect your iPad through usb to your computer.

If it’s the first time you’re connecting your iPad to your computer, both devices wil ask if the other is trustworthy. You should say yes, unless you have sneaky suspicions, of course.

iTunes on your computer should open automatically, but if it doesn’t, you can open it yourself (look at what a big strong adult you are)

Once open, click on the button ‘iPad’ or the name of the iPad in the top right corner.

At the top of the window that opens, it will give you a range of options – summary info, apps, music movies, TV shows Podcast, iTunes U ( everyone should look into iTunes U btw), and finally, books.

( Hot tip – you can sync all these things between your devices using the same method)

Click on books.

Select the ‘sync books’ check box, then choose to ‘sync all books’ or ‘selected books’ (which you can pick from below.)

There are 4 stages of syncing – it should take about 5 minutes ( depending on how much data you’re syncing of course.)

You can also sync your Audiobooks here.

Now you have all that lovely reading material on both! We recommend Shantaram, ‘Is everyone hanging out without me’ by Mindy and Mr Mercedes by Stephen King.

Just try not to do the ‘ol lying on your back reading with your iPad held above you until it falls on your face injury, k? K.

Tip of the day! Screenshots edition

So this is an oldy but such an important goody!! We’re talking SCREENSHOTS PEOPLE!!

So much of our lives are lived on our computers and devices these days (which we are all for, btw, as long as it’s not on the Kim Kardashian App…) and sometimes it’s just NECESSARY WITH CAPITALIZATION to show someone what’s going on in your deviceland. And maybe it’s just us here at iPhone Antidote, but sometimes it’s stupidly hard to remember how to take a screenshot, so here’s what you do:

For your iPad/iPhone: Press the top right hand power button at the same time as the Home button which is in the middle at the bottom of the phone. BAM MAGIC PHOTO SAVED RIGHT INTO YOUR PHOTOS APP

For your Mac: Press and hold the Command button,  the Shift button and the number three button all at the same time. BAM YOUR WHOLE SCREEN IS FROZEN IN TIME AND ACCESSIBLE ON YOUR DESKTOP AS A FILE

For your PC: If you’re using  Microsoft Windows XP,  click the window you want to capture. Press and hold down the Alt key and  the Print Screen key at the same time. BAM YOU”VE GOT A SCREENSHOT ON YOUR PC BUT WHY ARE YOU USING A PC AGAIN?

For your iWatch: Oh wait, that doesn’t exist yet, our bad. Don’t tell anyone we know stuff from the future k? K.

Tech Tip Of The Day- youtube edition

YouTube is awesome, because that’s where we get Britney Spears best-of compilations and Tech N9ne lyrics for our flow parties, but it’s also got quite some surprising and secret easter eggs that not many people know about.

The end.

Just kidding! Here’s  list of what we think are the best Easter Eggs on YouTube.

*Protuber is a free YouTube app on the iPhone which allows you to multitask while playing a video.

*If you pause a video on YouTube and type the numbers ‘1980’ you will get missiles firing at your video, and the ability to fight back.

* Pause a video on YouTube, then hold down the left arrow key for 2-3 seconds. Whilst holding down that key, press the up arrow. BAM! YOU’RE PLAYING SNAKE!

*Right click on any YouTube video and you can scroll down to the ‘Stats For Nerds’ option. Click on it and you get a rundown of statistics of the video you’re watching, including dimensions, frames and volume percentage.

*Type the word ‘repeat’ after youtube in the URL – for example: https://www.youtuberepeat.com/watch?v=pt8VYOfr8To. This will let you play the video on repeat!

Finally, don’t forget to check out www.bestofyoutube.com to get your weekly dose of YouTube awesomness.

iPhone Tip Of The Day

To celebrate being a month late for National Grammar Day, we’ve decided to give you guys some iPhone keyboard grammar tips! Are we all ready for some exciting keyboard shortcuts? Huh? Huh?  I think we heard a yes? Maybe?

Alrighty, lets start off with some dashes, cos they’re awesome, obviously. Hold down the Dash button to get a selection of dashes, including the lovely en dash and the slightly less lovely in our opinion em dash.

Hold down the slash to get a reverse slash, that’s an easy one.

Hold down the dollar sign to get the Pound, Cent, Euro, Yen or South Korean Won symbols

Hold down the ‘&’ symbol (Ampersand for those playing at home) and you’l get a § – a typographical character used mainly to refer to a particular section of a document, such as a legal code. It is also called “double S”, “sectional symbol”, and our favorite, “hurricane”. Obviously.

Hold down the period to get three dots, or Ellipsis. Hold down the apostrophe button to get both types of apostrophes and quotation marks.

Hold down the question mark to get an upside down question mark.

Hold down the exclamation mark to get an upside down exclamation mark¡ (See what we did there….)

Happy one month past National Grammar Day!

April fools day Prank ideas from iPhone Antidote!

It’s almost here! The 4th most glorious day of the year that’s not a real holiday but is still an awesome day!

Tomorrow is April Fools Day!

Tomorrow also represents Apple’s 38th anniversary, with their partnership having officially been founded on this day in 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. So there’s another reason to celebrate! There’s also often App and iDevice pranks that tech companies pull, so we’re looking forward to that! As long as their not lame, cos that’ll just be…lame.

So whadda YOU gonna do for April Fools Day Pranky McPranksters? Cos we’re cool like that, here’s some ideas specifically designed for your friend’s iDevices and Macs!

* Replace the shortcuts on their iPhones to whichever words you may find hilarious. Like poo. Or Strippers.

*Flip their computer screens for some excellently frustrating bafflement! Open System Preferences, click Display while simultaneously holding down Command + Option. A new menu called Rotation should appear, and you can flip the display and save it or undo.

*Set a screenshot of their homescreen as wallpaper, and then move around the actual apps so it seems as if nothing is working when really YOU’RE CLICKING ON NOTHING, MAN! NOTHING! BAHAHAHA

*Turn your friends iPhone App icons into baby kittens! Well, not really, but it LOOKS like it, which is almost as fun. Go to www.iphoneceptions.com on their phone, and follow the instructions listed there.

*Download the Nicholas Cage chrome extension that makes every image on any website actually be a picture of Nicholas Cage. Brilliant.

Other ideas not specific to tech include:

*Hire a smoke machine, lock your room-mate in his room with the machine right next to his door at 4:35am.

*Mix Soy sauce and sprite together for a surprisingly disgusting diet coke.

*Put toothpaste in their Oreos

*Paint their soap with clear nail varnish

*Finally, our favorite, put tabasco sauce into their sleeping mouths, then give them vodka to douse their burning lips.

iPhone Tip of The Day! iMessage Edition

iMessage is an awesome way to send free text, photo, and video messages to friends who are using iOS 5 and above. Read receipts allow your friends to see whether you’ve viewed their message or not.

Now, we’re all good people around here, right, but sometimes there are circumstances when you don’t really want people to know if or when you read their messages.

If you don’t want your friends notified of when you have read their messages, go to Settings >Messages > Send Read Receipts > Off.

You’re welcome!

iPhone Tip Of The Day! Safari Edition.

Got iOS 7? Yeah? Want to know a Safari feature not many people  know about? Yeah? Yeah?

Here you go: In Safari on iOS 7 devices you have the option to search within a page for a specific word!

Start typing the word you’re looking for into the URL bar at the top of the page. The results will show you the google search results first but if you scroll down it will show you “On This Page” and let you jump through the mentions of that page.

Sweet!

Battery Saving iPhone Tips Of The Day!

Happy Sunday Guys! Hope you’re having an awesome day filled with endless mimosa’s, friends and laughter!

but…

Whatcha going to do when your iPhone dies? And you’re stuck full of mimosa’s and you can’t figure out how to get where you need to be!? Huh? huh Mr & Mrs Mimosa? Because…

We got you! If you’re worried about the battery on your beloved iPhone running out, there’s a couple of things you can do. Hoorah!

1. Are you in a cave? No? Turn your brightness down!  Settings> Wallpapers & Brightness ( Or Brightness & Wallpapers on pre-iOS 7).

2. At a concert? No? Turn your volume down! (uh… we hope we don’t really need to say this, but it’s the buttons on the side.)

2.  Sometimes you just don’t need to be sending diagnostics to Apple, you know? This eats up your battery life, so turn it off!  Settings -> General -> About -> scroll to the bottom of the screen.Click on Diagnostics & Usage and switch it to ‘Don’t send’.

3. Turn things off. Like Bluetooth. What, are you playing music through a wireless speaker while drinking mimosa’s? Well, that sounds pretty awesome actually. But if you need to save battery, turn it off!

We figure Unless you’re in a foreign country and relying on Wifi – turn that mother off! Settings> Wifi> switch to off.

If you’re down to urgent battery levels you can even turn your phone on Airplane mode until you need to use it, saves a boatload of battery!

4. Close out all of your Apps. in iOS 6 and below, double click the home button, press an App until it wiggles, then touch the red circles until it disapears. On iOS 7, double click the home button then swipe each image of an App that appears upwards until it disappears.

We hope these tips will help you out some, and we’ll be letting you know some more long term battery saving tips and tricks in the next week!

High five!

Tech Tip Of The Day – This one’s for you Chrome users!

So, if you’re anything like us, you have, like, a bajillion and 8 tabs open in your Chrome browser. Because there’s just so much stuff on the internet that you need to remember to look at and everything is important!

Sometimes you open a bunch at once and everything’s going great. Then suddenly- an ad starts playing. A news story, music clip, or worse (depending on what kind of tabs you’re opening!)

It’s something you DON’T WANT TO HEAR AND YOU CAN’T FIND IT AMONG ALL THE BAJILLIONS OF TABS OPEN!

Oof. It’s like

Well, rejoice. No, seriously, rejoice.  Because now, with version 32 of Chrome, which can be updated or downloaded now, you will see a little, beautiful speaker icon on the tab from which that heinous sound is bellowing!

Chrome 32 also includes a red recording icon for tabs that are using your webcam, and a little TV icon for tabs that are being cast to your TV with Chromecast. It’s pretty sweet.

Download Chrome here if you haven’t got it yet and this has tipped your we browser preference scales, or update by clicking ‘About Google Chrome’ in the Chrome drop down in the main menu.

iPhone Tip Of The Day! How to lock your screen orientation!

Sometimes, we wanna look at the world like this:

Horizontally! ( Cos it’s like the horizon, see?)

Sometimes, we wanna look at the world like this:

Vertically! (Coz, it’s, like, vertical)

Your iDevice does both! Magic! Your device should switch from vertical to horizontal orientation depending on at what angle you’re holding the device, and it should choose the view based on what is best for you at that point in time.

But.

It does get it wrong, sometimes. Sometimes you’re lying in bed and reading and it decides that BAM NOW YOU SEE THINGS THE OTHER WAY.

Except sometimes looking at life from a different perspective is just realllllly annoying, stupid orientation moving the wrong way.

So here’s what you do! In iOS 7- simply drag the control centre from the bottom of the screen. Three quarters along to the right you’ll see a lock symbol. Like this:

Angle your iDevice so it’s vertical/horizontal- however you want it to be for task you’re doing (playing mushroom wars does SO count as a task). Press the lock and it will say Orientation Lock on. Press it again and it will say Orientation off.

In iOS 6, press the home button twice. This will bring up the dash, which, if you swipe to the right you’ll see the same lock as pictured above. Press it on and off to turn the orientation on and off.

CAKE!

mmmm cake…
