If you’ve been swept up in the cray Pokemon GO trend, but have been concerned about reports that by doing so, you’ve given Google all kinds of permissions to access information on your iPhone, concern no longer!
Reports have been coming out loud and clear all over the place that by playing Pokemon GO on your iPhone, you’ve given Google ‘full access’ and control of your email, search history, Google Drive documents, etc, etc.
Apparently, this was a mistake.
The game’s developer – Niantic Labs, issued a statement to the good guys over at Mashable –
“We recently discovered that the Pokemon Go account creation process on iOS erroneously requests full access permission for the user’s Google account. However, Pokemon Go only accesses basic Google profile information (specifically, your User ID and email address) and no other Google account information is or has been accessed or collected.”
And – they’ve apparently fixed it.
“Once we became aware of this error, we began working on a client-side fix to request permission for only basic Google profile information, in line with the data that we actually access, Google has verified that no other information has been received or accessed by Pokemon Go or Niantic. Google will soon reduce Pokemon Go’s permission to only the basic profile data that Pokemon Go needs, and users do not need to take any actions themselves.”
Now, you can update to version 1.0.1 of Pokémon Go for iOS, which will bring you improved stability, crash fixes, and a improvements on Google account permissions.
The update is now live in the App Store.
You know what works great for catching Pokemon? A new iPhone.
Sell your old not-very-good-at-catching-Pokemon-because-it’s-old-and-the-screen-is-cracked-iPhone to us for CASH! Use the cash for a new iPhone! CATCH POKEMON! LIFE.
You guys have heard of Pokemon GO, right? Seen people wondering around the streets with their phone in front of them, getting excited about something you can’t see?
Well, if you haven’t, IT’S HUGE. and it’s only getting bigger. Data published by SimilarWeb indicates that Pokemon GO daily active users are about to bypass Twitter. That big.
AND it’s not even global yet. At the moment it’s only officially available in the US, New Zealand, and Australia. It’s also installed on more Android phones than Tinder. People who use Android phones are more interested in finding Pokemon than dates? So it seems! Average users are spending twice the amount of time engaged with Pokemon GO than they are on apps like Snapchat.
Snapchat me that Pokemon.
And these are only the stats from Android. Throw in the iOS stats and this trend is big. Like throw all kinds of italics around big.
Google search activity for the term “Pokemon” is at an all-time high, and by a considerable amount.
Have you caught any Pokemon? Is this a sticky trend? Did our neighbors sneak into our house and steal all our Pokemon?
Damn them.
You wanna play??
Apple today released iOS 10 Beta to the Public. That means YOU, guy. You’re the public!
If you want to play around with iOS 10, there are some things you should know. If you’re a casual iPhone user, not many people would recommend getting the Beta. The reason for this is that, being a beta, there’s going to be a lot of bugs, and it’s going to take up a lot of your phone’s battery life.
The iOS 10 bugs that have been reported affect the following apps and features: CarPlay, Notification Center, Messages, Music, Control Center, and, well, general system functionality. That’s kind of a big one, guys.
Most people would say – if you’re really interested, go for it! And so do we! But! Maybe try it on that other iPhone you have sitting in a draw, then, sell it to us for cash once you’re done! (We buy used iPhones for cash… just in case you didn’t know…)
Also something of note – new iMessage features cannot be used in conversations unless the recipient is also running iOS 10, and third-party extensions for Apple Maps are also unavailable since they cannot be released on the App Store right now.
Will you play around with iOS 10 now, or wait for the polished version?
iOS 10 is set to be released to the public in the Fall. A lot of the features were, of course, revealed at WWDC 2016, however new pieces of information are coming to light.
One feature that sounds wonderful, is that in the Health app of iOS 10, users will have the ability to sign up as an organ, eye and tissue donor with one tap.
With the option, you’ll be enrolling in the National Donor Registry, with all organ, eye, and tissue donor registrations submitted from your iPhone sent directly to the National Donate Life Registry managed by Donate Life America. Tim Cook has said that he hopes this will ease a longstanding donor shortage. This shortage is something that he saw face to face when Steve Jobs had to wait for a liver transplant back in March 2009.
From the Sauce:
“Apple’s mission has always been to create products that transform people’s lives. With the updated Health app, we’re providing education and awareness about organ donation and making it easier than ever to register. It’s a simple process that takes just a few seconds and could help save up to eight lives,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “Together with Donate Life America, we’re excited to deliver this new feature to iPhone users in the US with iOS 10.”
The U.S government is currently pushing an initiative to speed up the donor and matching service, and it’s a problem that other tech companies such as Facebook, Google and Twitter are working on.
According to government statistics, someone is added to the national organ transplant waiting list every 10 minutes and 22 people die while waiting for life-saving transplants every day.
It’s been rumored for a while now, but it seems like the iPhone 7 will almost definitely start at 32GB in stead of the standard 16GB.
16GB has been the norm starter iPhone ever since the iPhone 3GS, but in a world where so much of our lives are spend on our phones – 16GB is not- and has not for a while- been enough. A lot of people have commented that the 16GB option is just so that the iPhone has a lower price point – but in reality it’s to push buyers past the lower price point option and spend the extra $100 for the 64 GB option.
Current storage options are 16GB, 64 GB and 128 GB.
The storage options for iPhone 7 are believed to be 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. There is also the strong possibility that the larger models will have the option of getting 256GB.
The bump from 16GB to 32GB of entry-level storage has already been widely rumored by multiple Asian sources connected with Apple’s supply chain, but confirmation from The Wall Street Journal makes the claim much more credible.
The iPhone 7 is rumored to not have significant changes, but will be thinner, with no headphone jack. The possibilities of better waterproofing and camera improvements is also there, as it always is.
Google is currently holding a Google Play Music promotion where new U.S. subscribers can get the first 4 month trial period free. Like, completely free. It’s a 4th July celebration promotion, and it’s totally worth it if you have an Android phone, although it also has an iOS App as well as desktop access via web browser.
Play Music gives you a library of over 35 million tracks, and the option to store up to 50,000 of your own songs using the Google Music Manager client.
It normally costs $9.99 a month. You can, of course, cancel your subscription at any time. With the trial, you’ll also get YouTube Red.
Check it out.
There’s a rumor in Rumorville, Tech Street, that by the end of the year, everyone’s favorite chill spot, Netflix, will allow users to download content to watch without an internet connection. IT’S THE FUTURE, GUYS.
So you’re on a plane, or stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and you want to CHILL, right? Maybe not the, uh, way the cool kids say it, but actually chill, with some of your favorite shows. BUT you have no internet connection!
Well, by the end of the year, reportedly and hopefully, that will no longer be a problem! Netflix has yet to comment on this possibility, and not all content will be available for copyright reasons – mainly Netflix originals.
Hello Orange Is The New Black with no internet!
Last week it was reported that Apple was in talks to buy Jay-Z’s music service Tidal, to maximize the users for their n music Service – Apple Music.
The story was broken by The Wall Street Journal, and these talks – spoken about by people ‘familiar with the matter’ – may not actually result in any deal. Neither company has commented on the rumor.
Beyonce’s Lemonade helped in the surge in popularity of Tidal earlier this year after it struggled to get market share. The streaming service focuses on exclusivity rather than the ability to access a lot of different music.
Tidal subscriptions cost $10 or $20 monthly, depending on if you want high-fidelity sound. There has been not mention of how much Apple would think Tidal is worth.
Do you think Apple will buy Tidal? Do you think it would help them boost Apple Music?
