Time names Tim Cook one of top 100 influential peeps

Apple CEO Tim Cook was once again named one of “the 100 most influential people” by TIME magazine in its annual list recognizing individuals who have made a major impact on the world.

Alongside each of the 100 influential people in the magazine, an essay  is written by an associate of theirs. Cook’s was written by Disney CEO Bob Iger.

From the sauce:
“Apple is known for elegant, innovative products that change the world by transforming how we connect, create and communicate, as well as how we work, think and act. Its continued success requires a leader of great courage and character who demands excellence, upholds the highest ethical standards and routinely challenges the status quo, including encouraging vital conversations about who we are as a culture and a community.

Tim Cook is that kind of leader.

Behind his soft-spoken demeanor and Southern manners is a focused fearlessness that comes from deep personal conviction. Tim is committed to doing the right thing, in the right way, at the right time and for the right reasons. As CEO, he’s led Apple to new heights, and he continues to build a global brand that is universally recognized as an industry leader and widely respected for its values.”
Stephen Curry, Mark Zuckerberg, Barack Obama, and Aziz Ansari are also counted as most influential, which is cool. We like all of those people!

Elon Musk’s Mario Tesla easter egg

Do you own a Tesla? If you do, you gotta try this!!

To transform any road into the Rainbow Road from Mario Cart (!),  activate autopilot four times in rapid succession, and that ish POPS UP!

It’s not actually  the rainbow road. It’s a “psychedelic cowbell road,” and activating it also cues up Blue Oyster Cult cowbell sound effects.

Do it. Go do it. Now. Please?

Want a one-of-a-kind iPad Pro?

Are you a fan of Apple’s notoriously shy head designer, Jony Ive?  This might be of interest to you.

A one-of-a-kind 12.9-inch iPad Pro, Smart Cover and Apple Pencil holder designed by Ive’s team will be auctioned off as part of a fundraiser for the London Design Museum.

The iPad Pro is bright yellow (awesome), literally one of a kind (Edition 1 of 1 is etched on it) and special because it highlights Ive’s relationship and support of the museum – back in 2003 he was the first recipient of the museum’s ‘Designer of the Year’ award for the iMac.

The Smart Cover is made from blue French leather and the Apple Pencil will sit in an orange Italian calf leather case.

The whole deal has an estimated value of GBP10,000 – 15,000, and if this floats your boat, you can bid starting on April 28.

Kickstarter of the week OLO Smartphone 3D printer what

This is a Kickstarter that has been funded 2,180,650of their initial $80,000 goal.It doesn’t necessarily need your help to become a reality – but you’ll probably want one in your reality.

Introducing the OLO. The very first Smartphone 3D Printer.  Crazy.

olo

3D printers are still fringe for some of the population even though they’ve  been around for a while. They’re very cool, have so many amazing consequences for the future, but have been a little expensive and carry a little bit of a intimidating barrier to entry for the general population.

The OLO on the other hand, comes in at a slick $99 clams, is portable at just over a pound, runs on AA batteries, and is super easy for both new users and pro’s. This one sentence says it all, straight from the Sauce:

“Imagine being able to print 3D objects directly from your smartphone… for just $99.”

Actually, OLO dudes, we weren’t able to imagine that… Now we can though. OLO won the World Maker Faire Editor’s Choice Award in October 2015 and has since blown people’s minds, just like it did ours, worldwide.

There’s 16 hours left on the Kickstarter. You should probably check it out. Get in on the future!

App Store Changes

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes are coming to the App Store!

Apparently Apple has organized a super secret (of course) team of around 200 Apple folk to look at changing the App store.

Rumors floating around the Apple universe include the possibility of App developers paying for search optimization within the App Store. The way that customers browse the App Store in general is being analyzed, to see if it can work better.

This makes sense, considering that there are roughly 1.8 million apps available on the App Store, making it pretty difficult for users to discover a lot of content.

However, paid optimization would be a hit below the belt for struggling app developers who rely on creativity rather than the size of their wallets to try and get their dream app out there.

What do you think??

Apple Facts of the week!

Did you know that although we think of Apple as being everywhere, and that their Fifth Avenue Apple store was the city’s most photographed attraction in 2011, there are 6 states in the US that have no Apple Stores?

Sorry, Vermont, North Dakota, Wyoming, West Virginia, South Dakota and Montana.

That sounds fake, right? We had to check when we heard it – just like we bet people have to check that Apple was actually founded on April Fool’s day 1976.

Something else Apple related that isn’t a trick? Apple has trademarked both a hybrid animal called Clarus the Dogcow that appears in some Apple applications, and the noise it makes.

Moof, obviously.

The more you know.
