You know what people like? Something that is possible if you have an iOS 8 on your iPhone? Time-lapse! It’s DA BEST.
Bring some tape on board your next flight (Gaffer recommended), put your iPhone camera on Time-Lapse, tape your phone to the plane window, and voila! Awesome time-lapse pic!
* Please note, make sure your iPhone is on Airplane mode. Even then some flight attendants/people sitting next to you will not appreciate this. In that case, take it down. You can time-lapse your Taxi-ride when you land instead. Or the sun going down over New York/Budapest/Sydney/wherever you’re going you lucky sun of a gun.
This is a letter that was given to Reddit user leanentrep by a senior citizen after he taught them how to use the Internet. It reads:
“Thank you with all of my heart (and more, if possible) for the wonderful gift of music you have given me (obviously haven’t quite mastered the intricacies of Word yet). I spent all last night searching YouTube and “subscribing” to stuff I hadn’t heard in years except in my mind (as well as some comedy routines that never fail to crack me up). Again, with all my heart (I could use one of those little emojis right about now!).
P.S. And I even get to WATCH them!! How could I ask for more!?!
P.P.S. And there are several versions of many of them—be still my heart!!”

“I teach seniors at the senior home how to use computers and the internet,” reads the caption. “When I came in today, one of the ladys [sic] used MS word to write me this letter.”

Check out this new website by Silicon valley-ers Matthew Hui and Kilim Choi*, two 23-year-old UC Berkeley graduates who decided that this shizz needs to be written down for posterity and reference and for people to poke fun at and laugh at themselves for.
It’s called Silicon Valley dictionary, and you’ll find it here. Beginning as a joke, it’s burst into super popularity right now and includes words and phrases like ‘No Money Mo’ Problems’ , (An expression often used by startups who’re running out of their funding) and ‘Shallow Alto’ (Another name for Palo Alto, denoting how shallow and superficial many (but not all) of it’s inhabitants are.)

Over at UC Berkeley, there’s some dudes and dudettes who are hell bent on discovering what the eff is up there above us – we’re not talking angels here, rather, aliens.
One of those dudes is a Russian billionaire named Yuri Milner. He made his fortune investing in certain big name scompanies like Facebook and Twitter and now he’s spending (some of) it in an effort to find intelligent alien life. $100 million of it, to be precise. Wowza.
This money goes straight to the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence research centre in Berkeley that has been looking for aliens since its inception in 1961.
Milner has called the project Breakthrough Listen and will be the largest scientific search for extraterrestrial life, in the expanse of the universe that will be studied, as well as the depth and detail of the data that will be collected and shared with the public.
How big is big? Well, beginning next year, and for the next 10 years, they’ll study the nearest million stars, nearest 100 galaxies, and the entire Milky Way galaxy and its billions of stars—a celestial expanse 10 times wider in scope than any previous research endeavors.
What’s really cool is that all data collected from the project will be made public for anyone to see, and Breakthrough Listen will offer a platform to developers to build applications to better analyze the celestial data.
So, you can swipe for love, sex, friendship, dog friendship, and now, some might say the ultimate swipe is here! That’s right. We’re talking Tinder for Food.
Finally the words delicious and yummy can be used with some integrity in a swiping app!
Something that kind of brings the ‘why didn’t I think of that’ feeling from within, the app is named Tender. Created by 3 peeps from the College of Charleston, the app is simple yet brilliant. Focused on cooking rather than eating out, you begin with, quite simply, food porn. If you swipe right, you save and get access to the recipe, and if you swipe left, it’s in the garbage with you yucky recipe for stinky poo food.
You can also filter results to your liking such as drinks, dessert, chicken, vegan, seafood, pork, beef, and vegetarian.
Virtual reality is an emergent and super exciting industry, with top dogs like Google, Facebook and Microsoft (among others) competing for first and best place in a field that will grow immensely to awesome, if science fictiony levels in the coming years.

If you or someone in your family or friends circle suffers from serious food allergies – you know this shizz ain’t no joke. Especially considering how many children are affected and how unpredictable protecting them can become – this is something that understandably a lot of people are working towards eradicating.
Even if it’s not a serious allergy- lower allergic reactions are not pleasant, and we don’t have time for that!
The wonderful folks over at 6Sensorlabs are such wonderful people. They’ve come out with a portable sensor, called NIMA Sensor, that can detect toxins in dishes, warning those with allergies before it’s too late.
Shireen Taleghani Yates and Scott Sundvor both struggled with food allergies, so they’re building something to help the hordes of people suffering along with them. At the moment, the sensor exclusively detects gluten, but will soon be able to detect dairy, eggs, and peanuts as well.
To use, you simply add a food sample to the pocket-sized test pod and in two minutes the sensor will display if there is any trace of gluten in your dish. Viola!
Everyone had their eyes and ears firmly placed on the part of the third quarter Apple earnings report that would tell the world exactly how well the newest Apple product – the Apple Watch – is selling.
Apple is smarter than that, though. Combining the Apple Watch into the ‘other product’s’ category made it so that no specific numbers on the Watch sales were made available.
They could be roughly gleaned, though. The other products category, which includes the Apple Watch, the iPod, the Apple TV and accessories like headphones, had $2.6 Billion in revenue this 3rd quarter, compared to $1.7 Billion in the same quarter last year.
The Apple Watch, of course, was not part of the revenue in that quarter last year, leaving many to speculate that the almost $1 Billion dollar difference was directly due to Apple Watch sales. Those speculating however must also take into consideration that iPod sales were down from last year.
CEO Tim Cook also made sure people knew that Apple Watch sales during it;s first 9 weeks of availability were higher than that of the original iPad and iPhone when they were first released, and that June sales of the Apple Watch were up from April and May, signifying rumors of decreasing sales were false.
Some in the tech arena are still pessimistically watchful (… get it?) of the Apple Watch and it’s sales and success potential, however Apple is full steam ahead, with now over 8,500 apps for the device, and a new OS coming out in the Fall.

“We believe the possibilities for Apple watch are enormous.”
Apple is a company that likes to have it’s public image (and internal culture) aligned closely with the fight for equality. Recently, Apple continued with this important fight by declaring support for the Equality Act of 2015, which would expand the Civil Rights Act of 1964 adding sexual orientation and gender identity to the legislation that outlaws discrimination based on race, color, religion, or national origin.
From the sauce, in a statement to the Human Rights campaign:
“At Apple we believe in equal treatment for everyone, regardless of where they come from, what they look like, how they worship or who they love. We fully support the expansion of legal protections as a matter of basic human dignity.
The Equality Act will ensure full federal equality for all LGBT Americans, including those who live in the 31 states that do not currently have non-discrimination legislation, protecting LBGT citizens from discrimination when seeking jobs, housing, public accommodations, education, and more.”
Apple is continuously and rigorously fighting for equality and anti-discrimination, especially in the workplace, and especially since Tim Cook has been CEO.
