ap

Guys- the Apple Special Media Event happened! But… what actually happened?

This stuff!

*Umm, so, Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, Tim Cook and Pharrell. Kudos, Apple. You’re cool with the kids.

* The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

First, aesthetics. We get a new color! Jet Black. Doesn’t that just sound like it’s something you have to have right now. They have a whole team of people to make you feel like that.

We have stereo speakers that are now on opposite ends of the iPhone and provide better volume and better dynamic range, and the home button is now flush, with a taptic engine for haptic feedback.

Aaaaaaaand no headphone Jack. But we knew that, right? And we also knew about not being afraid, because with the new iPhone 7 comes wired Lightning in-ear EarPod headphones and a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter. You also get the option of purchasing Airpods – see below!

The antenna bands are different with this model, aligned along the edges of the handsets, instead of across the rear like on the previous models. The volume buttons are positioned directly on the side of the handset and are not recessed like on the iPhone 6.

Now to the insides!

With the iPhone 7 models, we get a 64-bit four-core A10 Fusion processor which delivers up to 40% faster CPU performance, up to 50% faster graphics performance, and better efficiency compared to the A9 chip inside the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. We also get better battery life, faster wireless, AND-BIG DEAL GUYS-  improved water resistance, the kind that can deal with splashing and short periods of immersion in water.

There is also a 25% brighter Retina HD display with wider color gamut, improved color management, and 3D Touch.

Now the camera – we get a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization,Quad-LED True Tone flash, six-element f/1.8 aperture lens, an artificial light compensating flicker sensor, and enhanced tone mapping. AND THERE”S MORE. A 7-megapixel front-facing FaceTime HD camera with wide color capture and auto-image stabilization.

The iPhone 7 Plus comes with a dual-lens 12-megapixel camera featuring all the same features, but is much more advanced, including a wide-angle lens and a separate telephoto lens that combine to create 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom features.

Pre-orders for the new iPhones begin Friday September 9 and will be available to buy more than 25 countries from September 16.

iPhone 7 starts at $649 and comes in 32GB/128GB/256GB capacities.

The iPhone 7 Plus starts at $769, also in 32GB/128GB/256GB capacities.

All come pre-installed with iOS 10, which is also available for download on September 13.

* Apple Watch Series 2

We get a new material option! Apple Watch Edition in Series 2 was announced, which has a smooth white color.

The new Apple Watch model has a bunch of new health focussed features. Starting with the fact that it’s swimproof and water resistant up to 50 meters, is able to count laps, track average lap pace and auto-detect stroke type to accurately measure active calorie burn. It also comes with built-in GPS for more precise workout readings without needing to take your iPhone on the workouts with you.

From the Sauce:
“We’re thrilled with the response to Apple Watch and how it’s changed people’s lives. We are committed to fitness and health and think our customers will love the new capabilities of Apple Watch Series 2. With a powerful new dual-core processor, water resistance 50 meters and built-in GPS, Apple Watch Series 2 is packed with features to help our customers live a healthy life.”

With a dual-core processor and all-new second-generation S2 chip, Apple Watch Series 2 is up to 50 percent faster than the first generation. A new GPU also improves the device’s overall graphics performance, allowing for a display that’s 2x brighter (ranked at 1,000 nits) than the first Apple Watch, so it’s easier to read in bright sunlight.

Pre-orders are on September 9 with an official launch on September 16.

Apple Watch Series 2 will start at $369, and the ceramic Apple Watch Edition will start at $1249

The first Apple Watch, or “Series 1,” will have models starting at $269, and a processor upgrade also available for preorder on September 9th with an official launch on September 16th.

* Apple Airbuds

Here’s the deal-. Airbuds give you up to 5 hours of music wirelessly. The music will pause when you take them out, because they know things.

They can be controlled by Siri, of course, because she’s everywhere, and a double tap on the buds allows you to select and control music, change the volume, check battery life or perform any other Siri task.

From the Sauce, Phillip Schiller,Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing:

“AirPods are the first headphones to deliver a breakthrough wireless audio experience, and with the new Apple W1 chip they deliver innovative features including high quality sound, great battery life and automatic setup. AirPods are simple and magical to use, with no switches or buttons, automatically connecting to all your Apple devices simply and seamlessly, and letting you access Siri with just a double tap. We can’t wait for users to try them with iPhone 7 and Apple Watch Series 2.”

We like how he called them magical.

Each AirPod also has an additional accelerometer that detects when the user is speaking, while a pair of beam-forming microphones focus on the sound of the user’s voice and filters out external noise. Fancy.

The AirPods come with a Lightning cable for charging the rechargeable battery case.

You’ll be able to purchase them from late October for $159. You must, however, have an Apple device that’s running iOS 10, watchOS 3 or macOS Sierra.

New Beats Products for the win!

And… that’s pretty much all we know at this point.

Predictions of products to be released are new wireless headphones and headphones that adopt Lightning connectors, because the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will likely not have a headphone jack.

Not under the Beats brand, fully wireless “AirPods” earbuds are expected by some to be revealed by Apple at the same event.

Samsung issues global recall for the Galaxy 7 Note eep!

Last week was a rather large ‘EEP’ week for Samsung. This is because following the massive and applauded release of the Galaxy 7 Note a little less than a month ago on August 19th, they’ve officially stopped sales of the Galaxy Note 7 and issued a voluntary recall for existing devices.

Which is a really big deal.

Because it started exploding.

Reports started popping up all over the world of the batteries exploding, and as such, Samsung is conducting a full investigation. If you bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 7, here’s what you can do.

*Samsung will voluntarily replace their current device with a new one.

*Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint have all said customers can visit one of their retail locations to return or exchange the Galaxy Note 7 and any accessories they may have purchased to go with the device.

*Samsung said it would offer customers a $25 gift card, in-store credit or bill credit from their carrier “as a gesture of appreciation” if they chose a Galaxy S7 family device or opted for a new Galaxy Note7.

If you have any more questions or concerns, you can visit the store where you bought the device,  or call 1-800-SAMSUNG.

To the future! 2017 iPhone to include Iris Scanning Technology?!

Look out 2017. Even though the iPhone 7 is mere days away from being announced, eyes are (not pun intended) looking towards the next iPhone due in 2017, when – rumor has it – Apple will include iris scanning capabilities.

Kind of like a Tom Cruise movie. Or, like the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 we guess.
The iris scanner could work with or replace the touch ID and be used to verify the users identity.

According to all the rumors in Apple-ville. The 10th anniversary iPhone that’s due to be released next year will be a much larger update than the iPhone 7, which is expected to be announced September 7th.

Twitter + NFL = Magic?

Football season is almost here!

And guess what?

Twitter is apparently in discussions with Apple to launch a Twitter app for Apple TV that would let Twitter users watch NFL games on Apple’s set-top box.

We know, we know. This would be quite awesome. BUT it’s just a rumor at this stage.

However, what isn’t just a rumor is Twitter’s NFL live streaming. That will begin September 15th when the New York Jets play the Buffalo Bills!

Here’s a list of the 10 games Twitter paid around $10 million dollars for the right to stream:

Sept. 15: New York Jets at Buffalo Bills
Sept. 22: Houston Texans at New England Patriots
Oct. 6: Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers
Oct. 13: Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers
Oct. 20: Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers
Nov. 17: New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers
Dec. 1: Dallas Cowboys at Minnesota Vikings
Dec. 8: Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs
Dec. 15: Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks
Dec. 22: New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles
