Send money to your friends over Facebook messenger

Note: This is maybe not for you if you have problems with drunken Facebook messaging.

From today, and rolling out to customers throughout the US over the coming months, you will be able to send  money to any of your Facebook contacts through  the Facebook messenger app. You can also receive it. Which makes sense.

The money transfer service is free to use, which is excellent, seemingly super simple, and according to Facebook, super protected. We like all of those things.

To use, Tap the ‘$’ icon on the top of the keyboard, enter the amount you wish to send, tap ‘pay’ at the top right corner and add a debit, Visa or Mastercard. Cinchy.

If you’re on the receiving end of the money transfer, you lucky devil you, you simply open the conversation from the friend who’s sending you money and add the debit card onto which you would like to receive the funds.

Receiving money can be done by opening the conversation from the friend who sent the money and adding a debit card to accept the money. Funds are transferred immediately when sent through the app, but it can take one to three business days for the money to be made available.

Wanna play Mario on your iPhone? (D’uh)

mario

This is most excellent news! Today Nintendo announced that, alongside Japanese mobile game maker DeNA,  they will now (finally) be creating games for smartphones, tablets and PC’s.

Mama Mia!

They’ll be creating new games based on their amazing franchises such as Mario, Pokemon and Zelda, which you’ll be able to play on you iPhone or iPad in the not too distant future. Next Fall, to be more precise.
Nintendo is purchasing a 10% stake in DeNA for $182 million, and their plan is to create a “multi-device membership service for the global market,” available next fall for PCs, smartphones, tablets and also Nintendo gaming consoles.

Whooppeeeee!

Play cards against humanity online!

s-1

Have you guys played Cards Against Humanity yet? If you haven’t, get on it! (but only if you’re not super politically correct?)

If you have, and you loved it, you’ll FUR REALZ welcome, as we did, the introduction of a new way to play.

Online B*itches!! Woop!

Yup, you read right, you can now play the game for horrible people online.

Here’s how: when the game was first created, it was created under a creative commons license, which meant that anyone could recreate their own copy of the game. Any spinoffs are perfectly fine as long as they’re not for profit.

Dawson Whitfield, a designer and a genius, has now turned it into an online browser based web app. You can play it on your smartphone, iPad or computer against your friends. You do however have to be in the same room, so it’s not perfect yet. Skype cards against Humanity is coming, though, we swear.

Featuring all the original cards along with the five expansion sets, all you need is for one player needs to set up a new game and then send its custom link to everyone else who wants to play.

It’s called Cards against Originality. Get on it horrible people!

Partying for St Patricks day this weekend? Read this!

st particks day

Yes, St Patricks Day isn’t until next week on the 17th of March, however most people need a weekend to celebrate the day of the Irish, so festivities are kicking off tomorrow with block parties, parade’s and a very many Guinness’s drunk!

St Patricks day is synonymous with drinking of course, the color green and a good deal of ‘craic’ to be had. To start your celebrations off the right way, you should probably have a drab of some good Irish Whiskey and start calling yourself by your Leprechaun name. Obviously. You can do that with the Leprechaun Name Generator App, free from the app store.

Then, consider your options for the day. You’ve already started drinking, so you should probably look into getting that good friend of yours who owes you one on the line. If you’re in California, set them up with the California office of Traffic Safety’s DDVIP app, which lists bars that offer designated drivers free (non-alcoholic) drinks and snacks as well as connecting them to Uber, Lyft or Curb in case they cave to the devil drink!

Now that that’s sorted, get thee to a pub! Eat some cabbage, some  corned beef and some soda bread! Do a jig (or pretend to)!

Now that you’re set up with a pint or some whiskey with a crew, take this opportunity to record the events just in case your brain…forgets to do that part. Check out St. Patrick’s Day Photo Free so that you fill that photo with Irish stereotype stickers!

If you’re single, check out the Irish Proverbs app for some St Patricks Day themed pick up lines, a great way to make people Irishly happy!

Finally, a very important St Patricks day reminder: Get home safe people!! Don’t you dare drink and drive! To help you out, Uber is offering first time users $20 off with promo code RIDESPD.

And finally, if an iPhone in a Guinness accident happens, don’t worry, we got you! Send us in that beer soaked smartphone and we’ll give you straight cashmoney!

Happy Weekend before St Patricks day guys! Be safe, drink well, and may the wind always be at your back and good things in your lap… Irish, Irish, Irish, Irish …

iPhone 6S rumors already?

sjdhs

Yup, now that we’re over the Spring forward special media event, we now have WWDC to look forward to, and with that comes the rumors as to what actually will be revealed or announced at the annual conference. Which means, generally, a SHINY NEW IPHONE!

Yay!

We’re expecting iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 plus…S? iPhone 6S Plus? Not sure how that whole naming thing will work with the Plus, but unless Apple are upping the Ante with their iPhone release schedule, we shouldn’t expect an iPhone 7 until 2016.

If we’re looking at a ‘s’ update then we’re probably looking at incremental spec updates rather than anything astonishing design or capability wise, especially in the same year as the Apple Watch is released.

We’re probably looking at two different sized new models, just like the iPhone 6  and the iPhone 6 Plus. The bigger screens have proven successful for Apple and they should definitely be happy to continue in that direction. Although we would be very surprised to see them move any larger than the current 5.5 inches of the iPhone 6 Plus. There have been rumors of a new third size, a 4-inch iPhone to be released alongside the larger phones, to please those who are still attached to the size of the 5S.

We’ll be expecting the new iPhones to have brand spanking new A9 processors from Samsung, which will apparently be 15% smaller, 20% more powerful and 35% more power than the current A8 chips. Camera improvements are also on the cards, possibly a two lens system that would provide the iPhone with the ability to take DSLR quality photos, although this rumor is highly debated, as it would require a rather large chassis design change.

More RAM could be a possibility, going up to 2Gb from the current 1GB in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus. The Touch ID feature as well as Siri would be expected to have some improvements. There have been rumors that the new iPhone could come with the new force touch haptic feedback seen on the Apple Watch, however that is a rumor not many are clinging to.

Then there are the constant rumors that have a little less credibility – that the new iPhones will start at 32GB instead of the beginning-to-be-too-meagre 16GB, that the new iPhones will have wireless charging (we wish!) and that the new iPhones will come with a mini unicorn that will grant you 3 wishes.

That one has far less credibility. Just sayin’

The new iPhones are, of course, believed to be announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco June 8th – 12th this year, which, at time of writing is 90 days, 16 hours 51 minutes and 42 seconds away.

Following Apple’s previous release schedule, we should be looking at a September release.

Tech Of the Day!

foodsniffer

Our tech of the day is something that has seemed like a long time coming. Food wastage is not only an extremely serious problem in our world, where there are so many people without, but definitely also a first world problem when you go to the supermarket hungry, after pay day, after watching a cooking show, and go ahead and buy all kinds of fancy Salmon and beef cheeks and scallops and prawns and pork belly.

Then you get home, and realize that you forgot that you work and have family and stuff and you don’t really have time to cook all of that before it goes bad, but you still have hope so you don’t freeze it and then it’s a couple of days past the sell by date and you smell it but you don’t trust your nose so you throw it out.

Bad.

Food wastage is bad. Food poisioning  is also, pretty bad.

But hooray! This product is here to solve both! Introducing the Foodsniffer.

This new tech product helps you figure out the quality of meat, poultry and fish, and their suitability to eat.

How?  Well, the product has four different sensors that measure temperature, humidity, ammonia and VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) all of which point towards the freshness of the meat in question.

Point the product towards the meat, and it will send all the data it measures via bluetooth to your smartphone or tablet, where it will show you the results in detail, as well as a recommendation regarding the safety of the meat.

You can pre-order the Foodsniffer now for $120 in three different colors. Check it out here for yourself.

Get the lowdown on the Apple Special Media Event!

tim cook

Today, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Apple held a Special Media Event. The event was thought to largely focus on the imminent release of the Apple Watch, which it did, and announce a new Macbook, which it did. A really, really nice looking new Macbook.

Rumors had them announcing the rebranded Beats Music, which did not happen, but what did happen was the announcement of an Apple Supported HBO streaming service (with an exclusive viewing of a new Game Of Thrones Trailer) and the announcement of Apple’s entry into the Medical research field.

Say what?

You read right – Apple has partnered with a bunch of medical research firms and universities such as Stanford and Oxford to come up with a way that medical research scientists can collect medical data from the millions of iPhone users around the world, creating a much more quantitative, objective and communication-centric way to look at health, disease progression and giving a stronger more effective way of treating and curing diseases and conditions such as Asthma, Cardiovascular disease, and Diabetes.

Very exciting stuff. Before we get too far into that, let’s start off with some more of the lighter features in the event. We’ll be splitting this report into 3 parts, because it’s a lot of information, and…  it’s Monday. We got you!

Tim Cook started off, as he most always does, with giving us some stats about how awesome Apple it is. Here’s a shortened version:

*Apple opened 6 retail stores in China in the past 6 Weeks, making that a total of 21 stores overall so far,  and 453 stores in 16 countries around the world.

*120 million million retail customers in the last quarter

*25 million Apple TV’s sold so far

*700 millionth iPhone recently sold

*99% satisfaction score for customers owning an iPhone 6 or an iPhone 6 Plus.

*Apple Pay has grown massively since it’s launch with a lot more retailers accepting Apple Pay and thousands more banks supporting the payment system

Next,  Tim Cook brings on stage the CEO of HBO, Richard Pepler, to announce a new streaming service HBO Now – initially only available on Apple devices, called HBO Live. Giving you access to the entire HBO catalog. You can access the new service on it’s own dedicated Apple TV channel, or on any Apple Device. The service will begin early April ( in time for the new Game Of Thrones Premier on April 12th) for $14.99 a month, and you’ll get the first month free.

Mr Pepler also debuted an exclusive new trailer of the next Game of Thrones season which you can watch here.

The next announcements were simple and welcome one – Apple TV is going down in price from $99 to $69, sweet, and every major car brand has committed to delivering Carplay, with more than 40 new models of cars shipping by end of 2015.

Now on to the interesting stuff.  Medical research. Up until now scientists had to rely on relatively small sample sizes and subjective data when it came to research. Apple is making it possible to change that, creating an software developer kit called Research Kit, which will be open source (!), allowing developers to create interactive apps that will make it possible to collect substantive and important data on our health, gauge the effects of disease degeneration and turn our iPhones into diagnostic tools.

The first five apps, released today, are ‘mPower’ for Parkinson’s, ‘Diabetes GlucoSucess’,  ‘MyHeart’ for Cardiovascular disease,  ‘Asthma Health’,  and ‘Breast Cancer – Share the Journey’.

An important detail to note here – you choose what you participate in, and Apple will never see any of the data. An exciting idea created by Apple here, full of potential to help a lot of people. As long as they can make sure to keep all of the Data out of evil genius bad guys hands, this gets a huge thumbs up from iPhone Antidote.

Next – Part 2. The new Macbook. Ooooh, aaaaaah.
