iOS 8 now installed on lots of machines!

1409219519_Information

iOS 8 has been picked up by the Apple loving members of Society in a rather big way! The operating system launched in September alongside the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and has since seen it’s  adoption rate zoom up to 68% of compatible iOS devices.

This is a four % jump since the last time Apple listed the adoption rate back on December 23rd. Hey all you guys who got new iPhones for Christmas? You should totally sell us your old stinky iPhones. Because we like old stinky iPhones, and we’ll give you cash! Win Win!

iOS 7 has had an understandable dropped to 29% and other iOS versions represent a mere 4% of the App store user base.

Apple gave developers a third beta of iOS 8.2 in December, which should be released imminently.  It apparently will include a load of bug fixes and support for Apple Watch integration.

* Finally, here’s a deal that might help you out of your Verizon contract, if that’s something you’re interested in doing. It might not work, but it would certainly be worth a try. So. Verizon is increasing their administrative fee for all voice lines from $0.88 to $0.95. This apparently constitutes as a material change, since this fee is part of Verizon surcharges (not taxes). This means that you should be able to call Verizon to get out of your contract, without paying the early termination fee.

This has worked for some, not for others, and still others have received some kind of refund for the inconvenience ( $10-40). Give it a go if you’re looking to get out of your contract!

AT& T & T-Mobile new Data Rollover programs

1409219519_Information

AT&T and T-Mobile will both begin offering the rollover of unused customer data in January in another small battle in the all out Carrier war.

We begin with giant AT&T, who has announced that later this month they will be introducing a data program allowing their customers on Mobile Share Value plans to roll over their unused data from one month to the next.

“Rollover Data is an added benefit of being an AT&T Mobile Share Value customer and it’s just another way that we’re saying thanks to our more than 50 million plus Mobile Share Value subscribers,” said Glenn Lurie, President and CEO, AT&T Mobility. “We’re providing even more value and flexibility, and the best part is it’s simple, shareable and easy to track for our customers. All Mobile Share Value customers get this automatically.”

The program is being provided at no extra charge, however, you will only be able to roll over any unused data for one month, after your normal monthly allotment in used.
AT&T will automatically enable the rollover feature on all Mobile Share Value plans starting January 25. Customers can track their rollover data using the MyAT&T mobile app or on AT&T’s website.

On the other side of the service provider raceway, we have T-Mobile, who although weren’t the first carrier to provide the Data rollover idea, were the first amongst the big boys (including At&T).

They are also offering what they call a ‘Data Stash’ program. Any T-Mobile customer on an eligible postpaid Simple Choice plan who buys extra high-speed data for their smartphone or tablet can roll over any unused data for up to a year.

“That data is rightfully yours,” added Legere. “And, we’re putting an end to this appalling industry practice today. With Data Stash, when you buy additional high-speed data, there’s no need to lose what you don’t use.”

As an added bonus, T-Mobile will also be giving every customer eligible for Data Stash 10 GB of 4G LTE data for free.

So, this is definitely a small step in the right direction. And we know who won this battle. Step on up, T-Mobile.

Apple Watch release!

apple

When the Apple Watch was announced back in September, all that was said about a release date was ‘early 2015’. Well, it’s early 2015, Apple. You know it, I know it, our company Guinea pig knows it…

But. When a company says a product will be released in ‘early 2015’, that really could mean anything. Even if it turns out to be mid 2015 (unlikely) Apple would be forgiven for their mis-speech, because the anticipation for said new product would be elevated to such a height that when people finally got their hands on it they would forget that they were supposed to be able to have their hands on it months ago.

We probably won’t have to wait that long, however. Here’s what we know about when the Apple Watch may be released.

It’s said that Apple have been trying to perfect a number of small features on the Apple Watch in preparation for release, most importantly the charging mechanism. They want the charge to last on these things, because people and critics are already amping up to call them out over it after the battery didn’t display such great stamina at the announcement.

Developers are already working on iOS  apps that will support Apple Watch and iPhone interaction.

Most rumors have pinpointed March for the release in the first wave of countries. Don’t worry, The U.S.A. is always in the first wave. Wouldn’t that be weird if it wasn’t? Weird and unhappy.

There have been almost-shaped-like concrete rumors that say that retail training for the Apple Watch will begin early February, which would support the March release date rumors. Apparently in the week of February 9th-16th, high level retail store representatives will be sent to main Apple offices (Cupertino for example) to be trained, and will then go back and share their training with their little Apple underlings. Aw. Makes them sound so cute.

So, what kind of holiday is there in March that we can celebrate by getting an Apple Watch as a present…? St Patricks Day? Does it come in Green? Google tells me that March 3rd is I Want To Make You Happy Day. Well, Apple, a nice green Apple Watch that we can wear fancy for St Patricks day,  that’s what’s gonna make us happy.

Thanks in Advance, iPhone Antidote.

What did we search for in 2014?

1409219258_support-px-png

Wanna know what we, the internet-having, google-searching people of earth wanted to know more about in 2014?

Of course you do!

First up, let’s look at the top 10 searches in consumer electronics in 2014, because that’s the business we’re in, yo.

Coming in shiny at number 1 is the iPhone 6. That guy! What a guy.

Number 2 was the Samsung Galaxy S5. That guy.  Apple Watch came in at lucky number 8, and iPad Air just making it in there at number 10! Xbox 1 took out the coveted number 7 spot, and Nokia came in 9th place.

The top 10 overall searches didn’t contain any Apple or other tech devices,  HOWEVER Flappy bird did make the cut, coming in at a very scaryily high number 6.

Here are the  top ten overall searches for 2014.

Robin Williams
World Cup
Ebola
Malaysia Airlines
ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
Flappy Bird
Conchita Wurst
ISIS
Frozen
Sochi Olympics

Some sad, some inspiring, some lovely and certainly some challenging things that faced the world in 2015. Here’s looking to 2015 when we fix all the bad things and make another Frozen and play lots of team sports and sing and dance and accept and love.

Happy Holidays.

Apple’s Holidays Ad will make you cry happy tears

Happy tears are the best you guys. And it’s Christmas time, so obviously Apple want us to cry happy tears, so that we’ll feel warm and fuzzy, associate those feelings with them, thus creating subconscious brand loyalty.

Which is smart and also makes us feel a little squirmy inside. BUT its still an awesome commercial that will make you feel warm and fuzzy and in all likelihood make you cry big sploshy happy tears. So you should probably watch it. What are you, a grinch?

Happy holidays!

New Typeface for Dyslexia sufferers

Today we’re super happy to bring to you another new innovation in tech that will improve people’s lives exponentially, and the world as a result of that! Awesome stuff.

A Dutch designer by the name of Christian Boer has created a new font! Well, as much as we like fonts, there are like a googleplex of them right? So what’s so special about this one?

Well, this font is specifically designed to help those who suffer from Dyslexia, which is a developmental reading disorder that affects 10% of the population, 4% severley, and is the most common learning difficulty.

It’s called Dyslexie, and it’s specially formulated so that those who suffer from Dyslexia can more easily identify and differentiate single letters.

Dyslexie-font-ontwerp-lettertype-1

There is also more space designed in-between letters and fatter grooves which create more distinct shapes that stop dyslexic readers making incorrect patterns out of the letters.

Check out the video here:

For a bunch more information about the creation of the font and how it was designed AND how to download the font for free click here. There is also a bunch more information about the creation of the font and how it was designed.

Inspiring tech! What a beautiful thing!

Awesome tech of the day !

deaf

Our tech of the day today confirms just how amazing and inspiring tech can be in improving people’s lives and changing the world. It’s the best kind of tech, and something we will support all the way.

A company called MotionSavvy has created a tablet case that works as a two-way communication tool for the deaf and hearing impaired. It’s pretty damn amazing.

The case is known as UNI and it uses gesture recognition technology through a camera on the case that translates American Sign Language into audible speech. Further, it then uses voice recognition technology to convert any spoken reply into text. The case even learns how individual users sign, and can intake new signs into a feature called Sign Builder.

Check out the video here:

The MotionSavvy Uni is an Indiegogo product, and is therefore something you can support even if you aren’t in the market for one. It has raised $22,194 of it’s $40,000 goal.

If this sounds like something you or someone you know could utilize, it is available for preorder for around $192 and is expected to ship at the end of 2015.

High Fives all round!
