But when will we get a new iPad?

There were some who were a little disappointed last week during the Apple Special Media Event, and that’s in large part because there was some expectation of a new iPad model being announced.

It was not.

So will we be getting a new iPad any time soon?

Well folks, looks like the answer is yes.

It appears as though the release of iOS 12.1 has given some small hints that lead us to the release of a new 2018 Fall iPad, one with a TrueDepth camera which means that you could sync your Memoji between your iPhone and your iPad – a feature that is now possible thanks to iOS 12.1.

The good guys over at 9To5Mac additionally noticed that when looking at the Setup app, which is the app that runs when you set up a new device, there was a new identifier for a “2018 fall” iPad. The previous version of the app only included identifiers for the 2018 iPhones.

So, looks like we’ll be seeing a new iPad at an October Apple Event, as well as possibly some new Macs. Rumors suggest the new iPads will most likely be iPad Pros that will feature USB-C connectivity instead of Lightning.

Special Apple in Education event planned

Apple has just announced an event focusing on the all important arena of technology in education. The event will take place on Tuesday, March 27 at Lane Tech College Prep High School in Chicago, with the keynote, centered around “creative new ideas for teachers and students”, commencing at 10:00 a.m. Central Time.

The last time Apple held a similar event was in New York City in January 2012, where it announced iBooks 2 with interactive textbooks, iBooks Author, and a new version of iTunes U for iPad.

So what should we expect this time around? There’s a bunch of rumors swirling already about possible hardware and software announcements that could be made during the event, including :

iOS 11.3 availability with ClassKit
A cheaper 9.7 inch iPad for education for $259, currently it’s price point is $329.
A cheaper MacBook Air for $799 to $899, currently it’s price point starts at $999.
The AirPower charging mat

We can look forward to hearing the facts on March 27th!

PSA: Apple has raised prices on some models of iPad

Apple has  raised the prices on all of its 256 and 512GB iPad Pro models.

All 256 and 512GB 10.5 and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models are $50 more expensive, which means for the 10.5 model, the prices are now $649 for the 64GB model, $799 for the 256GB model, and $999 for the 512GB model.

For the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, prices are now $799 for the 64GB model, $949 for the 256GB model, and $1149 for the 512GB model. All cellular models are an additional $130 over the above listed prices.

Not all retailers have updated this price, and it’s not really clear why the prices have changed, but keep it in mind if you’re about to buy an iPad Pro!

T-Mobile no longer offering 200MB free data with the purchase of an iPad

When T-Mobile first began offering cellular iPads in the fall of 2013, they included a plan that provided customers with 200MB of free LTE data each month for the entire life of the tablet.

As of May 7, 2017, Free Data for Life is no longer available for new activations. If you signed up for FDFL on or before May 6, 2017, you can keep it with your current tablet as long as you own and use your tablet with T-Mobile.

T-Mobile currently offers just one data plan, T-Mobile One, with unlimited data. T-Mobile One customers can add a tablet to their plans for $20 per month.

Will we see a new iPad Pro announced in April?

It’s not like Apple is a totally mysterious company when it comes to launching new products, right?

Uh…. not right. So here’s what we’re looking at, rumor-wise for the possibly upcoming announcement of a new iPad:

First week of April, Apple will announce two new iPads at an event that will be marking the inauguration of its Apple Park campus. When we say first week of April, we mean from approximately March 20th to mid April.

Apple plans to target the education and business sectors with a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro and a refreshed 12.9-inch model.

The 12.9-inch iPad will probably only feature small upgrades, but the 10.5-inch model might feature a nearly bezel-free edge-to-edge display.

What do you think would be some sweet iPad Pro upgrade features? What would make you want to upgrade?

Are you an educator at a school that has a 1:1 iPad Program?

iPad

Many schools across the country are now participating in a number of different edutech programs, most commonly a 1:1 program with laptops, iPads or ChromeBooks.

In fact, a (now three-year old) report by the education nonprofit Project Tomorrow found that one-third of all high school students were using wireless devices provided by their school districts.

In the past, providing a rounded education meant providing students with up to date and thorough text books, excellent teaching staff, and a safe and happy place to learn. Now, this also means providing them with up to date technology. In 10 years…. personal AI tutors? Let’s hope they’re subsidized.

Many schools are in the fortunate position to be able to provide iPads to their students, while many others have their students participate in a ‘BYOD’  – Bring Your Own Device – system, whereby the parents and families of the students provide the device under the school’s direction.

These very admirable and, at this stage necessary edutech initiatives aim to have as many children as possible excel in tech immersive learning so that they can excel in a world where tech is everywhere – teaching them how to create, use, and consume technology responsibly and effectively .

This is excellent.

However, we recognize that at this stage these devices are not (yet) indestructible nor are they lasting, particularly in a school environment. Additionally, with technology improving at the current rate, the opportunity to provide a child with an upgraded device is one that comes around very regularly.

It’s also one we wouldn’t want to deny for too long for any child.

That’s why we provide a fast, economical and stress-free solution for 1:1 Initiative educators. We deal with old or broken tech so that you don’t have to.

Upgrading? Leaving devices in drawers until something better comes up? Thats us! Trying to sell surplus devices piece by piece? Let us deal with it.

We buy broken, cracked and used devices from schools, universities and businesses across America, providing a valuable, stress free transaction that includes free shipping.

If you’re an educator at a school that has a 1:1 iPad program, we encourage you to contact us at BulkSales@iPhoneAntidote.com, via our online chat at www.iPhoneAntidote.com, or on (888) 333 0635.

Apple’s new iPad microsite

ipad

Apple has just launched a new microsite celebrating the iPad and how ‘everything changes’ with the device. On the site you’ll find sections dedicated to showing a bunch of apps and ideas about how the iPad could start changing your life in many different areas, such as cooking, small business, traveling, education, etc (once you buy one, of course).

This is in line with Apple winning everywhere recently – except in iPad sales which have been down (12.6 million from 16.35 million in the first quarter.) There is also persistent rumors of an iPad pro being introduced this year, most likely at WWDC in June which would make promoting the device as a whole a step forward in boosting both current and future device sales.

Check out the website http://www.apple.com/ipad/change-everything/ and the new ‘iPad changes everything’ video below.

Apple’s new iPad Ad debuted during the Oscars

smiley

Apple debuted their new iPad Ad last night during the Academy Awards, and as per usual it was an uplifting and inspiring look at what the iPad can do to improve your life. In this case, it was focusing on Artists and in particular, filmmakers.

Because it was shown during the Oscars. And they’re filmmakers, you see? And pretty much about 75% of people who watch the Oscars think about how nice it would be to be up on that stage, holding a little golden statue and saying ” You like me! You really like me!”

Apple wants everyone to achieve that dream! And use your iPad while you’re at it!

The Ad, called ” Make a Film with iPad’,  featured Martin Scorcese in a resonant voiceover and a bunch of students from a Los Angeles County high School using iPads to create films and other art. It finishes with the phrase  “Everything changes with iPad”. The ad was apparently itself completely shot on an iPad Air 2.

Check out the App store for the new featured section highlighting the Apps that can help student filmmaking, and check out the ad below!
