Apple’s earnings call details.

currency_dollar green

Today Apple announced financial results for the 3rd fiscal quarter and 2nd calendar quarter of 2015. And it’s really good, mostly.

Let’s have a look at some of the numbers.

* Total revenue was $49.6 Billion, for this time last year it was $37.4 Billion.

* Total profit (the good stuff) was net $10.7 Billion, for this time last year it was $7.7 Billion.

* That’s profit of $1.85 per diluted share if you’re lucky enough to be an Apple shareholder. Thats up from $1.28 per diluted share a year ago.

* International sales accounted for 64% of revenue.

*Apple announced a dividend payment of $0.52 per share to be paid on August 13th to shareholders of record as of August 10th.

*Apple has an impossible to imagine (but we like to think about Scrooge McDuck’s daily money swim animation) $202.8 billion in cash and marketable securities.

* All this revenue? Mostly from iPhones. Apple sold 47.5 million iPhones during the quarter. For this time last year it sold 35.2 million.

* Mac sales are also up, with 4.8 million units being sold, up from 4.4 million for this time last year.

*The bad news bear came in the form of the iPad, which is still in decline, with sales falling from 13.3 million to 10.9 million.

From the sauce:

“We had an amazing quarter, with iPhone revenue up 59 percent over last year, strong sales of Mac, all-time record revenue from services, driven by the App Store, and a great start for Apple Watch,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The excitement for Apple Music has been incredible, and we’re looking forward to releasing iOS 9, OS X El Capitan and watchOS 2 to customers in the fall.”

Dollar dollar bills, y’all!

A9 chip production for next iPhone begun!

exclamation mark

According to those in the know, Samsung and TSMC have both started mass production of the A9 chip that will be a part of the next models of the iPhone – said to be iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and possibly a third option – the iPhone 6C.

Apparently there was some last minute changes to the chip, but that hasn’t changed the production schedule which will be readying the devices for release most likely in the Fall.

Apple is reportedly ordering over 85 million iPhone 6S units from suppliers by the end of 2015. Wowzers.

Apart from the new chip, the new iPhones are looking at a speculatively similar design and screen size as the previous models (iPhone 6, iPhone 6S and possibly an update to the iPhone 5C), an improved 12 megapixel rear-facing camera, 7000 Series aluminum, and the possibility of the inclusion of the Force Touch feature seen in the Apple Watch.

An announcement and release details are expected in the fall.

Apple music launch tomorrow! Here’s what you need to know.

Apple-Music-iOS-9

Tomorrow, June 30th, Apple music will launch! And everyone in the world will be talking about it because 1. It’s newfangled and shiny, 2. It’s free for 3 months, and 3. It’s launching with an exclusive Hip Hop classic that everyone thinks is cool/pretends to be cool by knowing all about it.

Yup, The Chronic, the 1992 West Coast hip-hop album by Beats co-founder and now Apple God Dr. Dre. This is the first time the album has been on a streaming service (including Beats!), and will join the likes of much hyped 1989 from Tay Tay Swift. Another draw? Happy maker Pharrell will release his new single “Freedom” exclusively on the service.

A number of other Artists are said to be in talks with Apple about releasing exclusive content onto the platform. BUT WAIT THERE”S MORE!

Aside from the streaming service, Apple Music is also offering Apple Music Connect platform, a social network that lets artists share (more) photos, videos, and other content with fans.

And then there’s Beats 1 radio, which will feature special interviews and music curated by celebrities. Slim Shady himself, AKA Eminem, will be the first Beats 1 interviewee following tomorrow’s launch of Apple Music and Beats 1, and Dr. Dre will host his own radio show on the station.

Apple Music is expected to launch around 8AM PT Tuesday morning alongside iOS 8.4, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system. It will be available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac and PC through iTunes.

The first three months is free of charge thankyouverymuchApple, but after that there will be a subscription fee of $9.99 per month for a single user or $14.99 per month for a family plan of up to six users.

If you’re not down for commitment, you can still listen to Beats 1 radio, see what artists are posting on Connect, and hear ad‑supported stations on Apple Music (with limited skips) without a membership.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch..eck it out.

No more Home button?

1409219258_support-px-png

It’s that time again folks – New iPhone rumor time!! This time? We’re talking the Home Button, or rather, the distinct possibility that an upcoming update of the iPhone will not have one.

Whha?

Yup. But probably not the iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, and 6C. Instead we’re looking at having an iPhone equipped with a new chip that will have the touch ID directly on the touchscreen in 2016 or 2017.

The tech will apparently be built within Apple instead of being outsourced and will perhaps be integrated with the Apple Watch’s Force Touch technology — which can tell the difference between a light touch and a stronger press — to bring all the other functionality of the Home Button over to the new home buttonless screen.

Interesting.

Apple’s celebration of it’s App Store!

If you missed last week’s WWDC keynote, then you missed Apple’s self-congratulatory dialogue about the App Store and all of the life-changing Apps that exist within it. The App store has grown from 500 apps to well over a million in just 7 years, and, yes, we do love ourselves some apps. Life changing ones, procrastination ones, fun ones, sexy ones, educational ones, stupid ones…. we love apps. Apps, Apps, Apps.
