WWDC in San Jose this year!
Apple’s annual 28th Worldwide Developers Conference will kick off June 5th, and this year it’ll be held at San Jose’s McEnery Convention Center. Last year it was held in the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, and between 1998 – 2002 it was held in San Jose at the convention center, after which it moved in between the San Francisco Moscone Center and the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.
Now, the conference is exciting for all kinds of reasons – bucket loads (about 5000 buckets worth) of developers getting access to over 1000 Apple engineers, learning about their platform tech and how to work together to create even better tech based in these platforms – but of course, for most of the population, the most exciting thing is the Keynote speech.
Cue fancy music!
Every year, Tim Cook and his posse of cool beans execs go on stage with exciting and (for the most part) mysterious new products and amazingly well produced videos showcasing them. This year, we’re looking at the reveal of the mucho, mucho anticipated iPhone 8.
Well, maybe.
As always, Apple doesn’t create and tell until it’s ready to do the telling. But we’re going to go with maybe the iPhone 8? Apple has’t revealed an iPhone at WWDC since 2010, so there’s that to take into consideration. The iPhone 8 is the 10th anniversary update of the iPhone, and people are pretty excited about it. Rumors are swirling around wireless charging, 3D face recognition instead of touch ID, no more home button, an edge to edge OLED screen, and a fantastic new line of sight teleportation feature.
That last one might be us being optimistic…
We should definitely see the reveal of the latest versions of Apple’s software platforms, which this year is likely to include iOS 11, macOS 10.13, tvOS 11, and watchOS 4.
Tickets will be offered by random selection for $1,599. Ticket lottery registration opens Monday, March 27 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Those that plan on registering must be a member of the Apple Developer Program or Apple Developer Enterprise Program as of February 16 at 5:30 a.m. Pacific Time.
The conference will be live-streamed through the Apple Developer website (developer.apple.com/wwdc) and on the WWDC app for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.
