Uber to offer free rides to polling places

Here’s what’s up – you can vote in the Mid-term elections on November 6th. It’s a big day guys, and if you can, you should get out there and exercise your right to vote!

The good news?  Uber’s making it easier to do just that. The company is joining up with #VoteTogether and Democracy Works to provide FREE rides to polling places.

Anyone with an Uber account can find their local polling place and book a ride to get there for free (in markets where Uber is available). The promotion will be available to all users, and will launch automatically when you open the app.

From the Sauce, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi;

“Using our technology and resources, we can help make it easier for every Uber rider in the U.S. to get to their polling place at the push of a button. We’re also partnering with nonprofit organizations to register voters before state deadlines and provide free rides to the polls on November 6.”

To help get people registered before their state’s deadline, Uber is already featuring in-app tools for customers to use to go through the process.

So, Uber –> Vote –> Celebrate!

Get a free Uber ride from Facebook Messenger!!

You can now book an Uber through Facebook Messenger! In promoting this new feature, Uber and Facebook are offering existing and new users a free Uber ride up to $20!

From the sauce:

“With the ability to request, track and pay for a ride in Messenger, we’re making transportation as simple as sending a message.”

Uber is the first of many transport services to be added to Messenger, but currently the feature is only in testing phase – available to select users in select locations – so you might not have access to it yet. If you do, simply download the latest version of Facebook Messenger and check out the instructions below.

To claim your free ride, link your existing Uber account or set up a new account within Messenger and request a ride! Simple as pie!

Uber testing new service

Uber has begun a pilot program in the Bay Area that aims to benefit current and attract new drivers to the service.

The program is similar to UberPool, which matches multiple passengers going the same direction, however this program will specifically match the driver with passengers who are going to the same destination. Think the supermarket, or to and from work.

Twice a day, drivers will be able to input their destination and be matched with passengers going to that same place. This is also similar to Lyft’s Driver Destination, however Lyft drivers’s can use in three times a day.

The program will extend to other areas in the future.
