Uber to offer free rides to polling places

Here’s what’s up – you can vote in the Mid-term elections on November 6th. It’s a big day guys, and if you can, you should get out there and exercise your right to vote!

The good news?  Uber’s making it easier to do just that. The company is joining up with #VoteTogether and Democracy Works to provide FREE rides to polling places.

Anyone with an Uber account can find their local polling place and book a ride to get there for free (in markets where Uber is available). The promotion will be available to all users, and will launch automatically when you open the app.

From the Sauce, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi;

“Using our technology and resources, we can help make it easier for every Uber rider in the U.S. to get to their polling place at the push of a button. We’re also partnering with nonprofit organizations to register voters before state deadlines and provide free rides to the polls on November 6.”

To help get people registered before their state’s deadline, Uber is already featuring in-app tools for customers to use to go through the process.

So, Uber –> Vote –> Celebrate!

More teen survey goodness

Piper Jaffray recently did a survey of American teenagers, seeing what tech and social media they’re into compared to years past. The survey is  published and used by investment analysts and company head honchos to see what they should be doing different to pick up the lead in the all-important youth market.

Recently, we learnt that Instagram is number 1 in American teens eyes, whilst Facebook is falling in importance in their wee little eyes. Now we learn that the Apple Watch? Not so much in their focus. They surveyed 6200 teenagers and only 11% plan on purchasing an Apple Watch. This is down from 16% from a similar survey down last Fall. And mainly? They’re in it for the style, rather than the function.

…Yeah, we could probably have guessed that.

teeniphone

The good news for Apple? The iPhone and the iPad remain the most popular smartphone and tablet among teenagers. 66% of teenagers surveyed owned an iPhone, while 64 percent owned an iPad. 72 percent of teens expect their next smartphone purchase will be an iPhone, while 60 percent expect their next tablet to be an iPad.

21 percent of teens expect their next smartphone purchase to be an Android, and 16 percent plan to buy an Android tablet. Interest in Windows tablets has grown slightly, however, and 20 percent of teens expect their next tablet purchase to be Windows-based.

The next Teen survey will be published in October this year, and it will be interesting to see what we expect to be teen interest in the Apple Watch build quite significantly.

The really really expensive Christmas Gift Guide (just for fun)

Welcome to our version of what would you buy if someone gave you $20,000,000 and told you you had to spend it, in a store ( online or real) in 10 minutes.

Because we like to think realistically, right?

That’s what we thought.

So just in case this happens to you, we thought we should make sure you’re prepared!

OR if you’re reading this and you are wealthy enough to buy these things for people for Christmas, well, think of this as a perfectly tailored iPhone Antidote Christmas Gift Guide. And can we be your friend?

Here’s some of the most outrageous tech things you can buy on the planet. Some of them are less tech, more just cool. We had to share.

Enjoy (and, um, you might want to get a tissue for that drool.)

The Flying Car.

How else would you get around? A limo? A Bentley? Please.  Reserve one now!

The Aquaflyer.

The Flying car of the sea! And a must have, because oh gosh how much fun does this look. Enough fun that it makes you say things like Oh Gosh.

Check it out. $9,999.

Your own Private Island. Obviously.

Everyone who is rich and cool has their own private island. Not everyone who is rich has one ( you hear that Kanye?). There’s a bunch you can buy, varying in price from $27613.98 to P.O.A ( Think over 2 Million. At least.)  Check them out here.

But then you have the age old question: what would you take to a private island?

Uh… How about a hot tub boat?

Done! The Hot Tub Boat.

It’s a boat AND a Hot Tub. It’s settled then. Check it out here.

Get an Aquarium

You can get it to surround your TV or back your home bar. Or YOUR BED COULD BE AN AQUARIUM! That would be so neat, and then you own an entire underwater world. You can call your fish your minions.

The 1959 Corvette Billiards Table for $25,000

Because it’s pretty. And shiny and red and it’s a pool table. Need we say more? We didn’t think so.

Why not buy a submarine?

Because of all the fishes you can wave to! Think of all the new friends you can make! Like whales! What nice guys those whales are.

$2,000,000.  Check it out here.

How about an Interactive Pool Table System? Not sure what exactly that is? It’s this:

Transform any pool table into a digitally-enhanced video experience. Apparently seen a lot in Vegas, so you know you should have one. Actually, you know you should have a whole pool table room.

P.O.A. Check it out here.

Hart Audio “D&W Aural Pleasure”

Loudspeakers Cast in Bronze, Silver & 18ct Gold. Awesome speakers. Like, really awesome, and covered in precious metals, which is actually how we would like to have everything in our house one day.

Bargain price, really, starting at only $65,308.00 for the bronze. Check them out here.

The Dry Water Jet Massager.

It’s like this fancy pod thing that you get into and there’s..dry water? that massages you. It’s like you’re a rapper but the girls are a fancy pod thingy with fake water.  We’re not sure we explained that right, so you should probably just check it out here. It’s $36,000.

How about a…. Bewjewled Anti-Aging Human Regenerator?

Wha?

Yes. This.

This machine was on display at the world luxury Expo recently. It’s a blinged out ( think 6880 carats and 172,000 diamonds), human sized machine that a company called System 4 Technologies GmbH made to treat that awful malaise called aging.

The machine apparently slows aging using pulses and frequencies that treat silicon and aluminum deposits in the body’s skin.

AND it’s only $9.8 million dollars! Check it out!

And finally, a smiling gold plated Christmas kitten drinking some star infused milk.

Happy Holidays!

iPhone Antidote’s Holiday Season Tech Gift Guide is here!

iPhone Antidote LOVES christmas. We put our christmas tree up in October, no joke.

AND we’ve been tracking the best gifts this year so you can get everyone in your life the best damn christmas present they’ve ever had. We’re talking tears in the eyes of the toughest man you know kind of christmas gifts. You guys are gonna get so much christmas karma this year!

Although tech stuff tends to be on the higher side of the budget range, we’ve tried to include a broad range of prices AND gifts for a broad range of ages and interests.

We’ve also provided some nice gift viewing music to serenade you whilst you read. Did we mention that we love Christmas?

You ready? Here we go!

Health Conscious

For the health conscious in the family, any of the Fitbit product line will make for a perfect gift. At iPhone Antidote, we recommend the FitBit One (seen above), but the Fitbit Flex has been reviewed positively as well.

The gadget tracks steps, miles, and other activities undertaken as well as calories taken in and expended, weight and even your sleep patterns. A very effective tool for maintaining or improving healthy living.

The Fitbit range is sold in most good tech stores. The Fitbit One is $99.99 and the FitBit Flex sells for $99.99 everywhere. Try Best Buy or Target.

Speakers.

Cos everyone loves music, right?  And how awesome is it when you can just press a button on a device and music comes pounding out across the room? Or across the campsite? That’s why everyone needs a portable bluetooth speaker, like the Beats by Dre Pill ( shown above), $199.95 at most good techy retailers. Try Macy’s or AT&T.

We’d also highly recommend the SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker from Bose. Get it here for $199.99.

Groupon currently has a good deal on the BassBoomz Portable Bluetooth Speaker, usually $130, now $29.99. Click here to see the deal.

On the other hand, Airplay speakers ( strictly Apple only connectivity)  give better sound quality than bluetooth, but you certainly pay for it. The one we like the most is the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air for $599.99. Click here to get that price.

The iKross Bluetooth Stereo Music Audio Receiver makes any speaker in your house a bluetooth connectable speaker. Uh, awesome?  Get it for $24.98 here.

Game systems

If you haven’t already snapped up one of these and are wanting to, well, we wish you luck my friend. They are a little scarce on the ground at the moment, but we think that supplies might bulk up towards the pointy end of Christmas. Might.

But if you can, either of these would make a smashing christmas present. Just make sure you get the right one, and we’re not telling you which one that is- they are both awesome, but it is a fierce battle forged in people’s minds as to brand alliance, much like Samsung and Apple products. If the person you’re getting it for has no alliance, you’re good to go on what suits the budget and environment.

The Playstation 4 is $399.99 at Walmart, Best Buy & most good retailers. The Xbox One is $499.99. Consider getting a product bundle as well.

The alternative to the two big players is the Nintendo Wii U for just $299.99 at Best Buy -that’s the Wii U Console Deluxe Set with New Super Mario Bros. U AND New Super Luigi U games.

Games

Games! Woop! These are the top coolest games we can think of to recommend!

Super Mario 3D world – pretty much the best game in the world. For Nintendo consoles. $59.99 with free shipping at Best Buy.

FIFA 14. Solid, fun technical sporting game for $59.99 with free shipping at Best Buy.

Lego Marvel Superheroes. Awesome fun. (Nintendo) Find the range at Target, starting at  $19.99 for the Nintendo DS version.

Grand theft auto V. The game everyone’s been talking about! Be warned, this is not the game to get your 10 year old! Mature themes run throughout, but those, uh, mature enough to play it? They say it rocks socks. In a more mature way of saying that. Available now on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.$59.99 at Best Buy.

Groupon currently have a deal to buy Just Dance 2014 for Wii, Xbox 360 Kinect, or PS3 Move . Super fun and easy game for everyone to play. Usually $39.99, now only $29.99.

Quadcopter/helicopter

No matter what age, a Heli or Quadcopter will bring a lot of joy this holiday season. The best of the lot would be the Stunt Copter ( seen above) at Brookstone for $69.99.  It takes a little learning, but comes with a repair kit and takes some good smashes with no damage. Designed for inside and outside play, it’s a perfect toy that takes some practice- but the practice is hella fun.

For more of a toy than a project, we’d recommend this the Hovermaxx UFO RC Helicopter, for only $19.99 from Brookstone, it’s perfect for beginners age 6 and up for inside play and includes 6 LED lights on the device.

For the Quads, we’d definitely recommend the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 App-Controlled Quadricopter ($299.99 at Brookstone), it’s big brother the Parrot AR.Drone Quadricopter Power Edition which lets you stay in the air for 3 x longer ($369.99 at Brookstone), or if you want to go REALLY LARGE – the DJI Phantom Aerial UAV is really top notch. Check it out. ($453.44 with prime at Amazon)

Smartwatch if you cants wait ( but we suggest you do).

If you or one of your loved ones realllly can’t wait for the iWatch or similar expected far advanced tech, then it’s ok, we got you.

We recommend the Pebble Watch if you’re after a standalone smart watch (173.99 from Amazon), or the Martian Passport Smart Watch if you’re after a stylish accessory to go with your smartphone ($299 with Prime from Amazon).

Both are great Smart Watches and hella stylish to match, but expect big advances in battery time and capabilities as early as next year in their own updates and in new products.

Very exciting iPhone day, but thought we could pause for a minute and remember…

Hiroshi Yamauchi, the man who turned Nintendo into the video game powerhouse it’s known for, died yesterday aged 85.

Because we couldn’t write it any better, read all about the man himself in the NY Times here.

R.I.P. Hiroshi. Thanks for all the fun, thanks for all the memories, and especially, for us, thanks for Yoshi, he was our favorite.

Hiroshi Yamauchi, 11/7/1927 – 9/19/2013
